Updating that old ceiling light

Our house came with some pretty interesting things; One of them being an old ceiling lamp that hung in the kitchen. I knew it had to come down but I wondered if we could give it a new life.
(Sorry this picture is so crappy)

I'm pretty in love with drum shades at the moment and after seeing this picture, I thought, "I could make that." These people were charging $69 just for the shade. crazy.

I went to Wal-Mart, found a lovely drum shade for $14.44, and took some spray paint to it. I decided on a more subtle pattern instead, but all it took was about 3 strips of painters tape. Jerry took the old glass cover off of the old ceiling lamp, and spray painted the base with a dark brass color. Then with a nip and a tuck and a little bit of glue, he attached my shade to the old/new lamp.  He also did my wire work for me and installed it... I'm no electrician.

But I'm pretty in love with the way it turned out and I only spent $14.44 (and an hour or two of my father in-law's time)  :-)
