Here lately

We have officially moved into our house...as of about 3 weeks ago. Our current project has been the hardwood floors. I love hardwood floors but I absolutely love rustic hardwood floors. They are so homey and inviting. You don't feel like you have to tip toe around or don't have to fear dropping anything or making marks. The marks are what make them interesting. These are some of my favorite hardwoods...

^ I got this picture from my fab cousin's decor blog.

Our hardwood floors were definitely in the rustic category but needed a little help...or more like a lot of help. The first room we (Isaac and my father in-law Jerry) started on was Isaac's office/music room. We (Isaac and Jerry) sanded the floors with a hand sander, mostly in the spots that needed it most. And then Isaac stained the floors with Minwax Jacobean color wood stain.

We let them dry for a good 3-4 days, even though it probably only needed 2 days (so smelly it burns your nostrils!) and then I (and I proudly mean all by myself) Polyurethaned the floor. I used a fast drying Polyurethane so the floors were 100% dry in about 10 minutes, but I left the fan on for the next 5 hours just to be sure.

Before (I loved the original color so I wanted to keep them similar)

I have to say, I'm so happy with they way they turned out. And I LOVE the color combination of the white trim, navy-grey wall color, and the new color of the floors.

The rest of Isaac's office... we're still working on it but here's what it looks like so far.

I love his wall of guitars/ bass

That is an elephant at the bottom of the picture if you're wondering. There's an inside story as to why Isaac loves elephants but I got this little guy at Hobby Lobby for 75% off marked down from $160. I love good deals. But this poor little guy blends into the walls so much that I'm thinking about painting him a funky color of some kind...

We'll see.
