Fabric Fabric

I've been searching for a while for fabric to make roman shades in our house. Our bamboo blinds are a little see through and that just isn't cutting it in our bathroom. Well yesterday, my friend Nicki and I went to Hancock fabrics just to shop around and to our surprise they were having an Anniversary Sale and almost everything was 54% off!  My ears perked up and I went on the prowl but I didn't have to go very far because I spotted the fabric I wanted right when we first walked in.

Chevvvrooon stripes would look fab in my kitchen! Originally $17.99 marked down to $8.99!  Two yards please.

And a funky pattern fabric in the same colors as my bathroom also marked down to $8.99.
                                                                   Two more yards...

...matches my awesome West Elm shower curtain that my mother in-law bought us :-)

I am a happy girl... Now I just have to make the shades... should be easy, right?

Here at my cube

This morning, while 'wall papering' my cube with the fabric I used for my table runners at my wedding....

my cube neighbor, Joe (let's just call him Joe) walked by, then slowly back up and said, "Oh my goodness! I didn't realize what you were doing over here! You shocked me! (laugh laugh laugh)....
it's just a little loud. I'm in shock."

Apparently State Farmers do not interior decorate their cubes... woops.

Rugsies

Oh, rugs. You have the power to open up a room, add color, texture, warmth and tie a room together.
Here's to you old friend.

MIA. Yes, that has been me recently. A few reasons;
1) my sister just got married last week! See pictures HERE.
2) And I recently got a new job!

I am officially a State Farm Payment Plan (SFPP) representative.  I don't feel like explaining it because it'll sound boring and lame. However, no more crazy fluctuating hours, and no more nights or weekends for me! It's been fabulous. Anddd to top it off, I get my own cubicle! This may not sound like much to you, but to me it's pretty neat-o.  So my attention has been shifted on how to decorate my cubicle :-)  Next to my house, it's the second place I spend most of my time at... might as well make it homey.

Apparently other people don't think the same way as me about their cubicles because I could barely find any pictures of inspiration... Anyone have any winning ideas they'd like to share? :-)

Thinking about 'wallpapering' my cube walls with cool fabric...

A love affair

... with glassware.
I got these cups for my wedding registry as my 'nice glasses' and just plain glass tumblers for my 'everyday' but I love the recycled glass cups so much that my intention for these cups have flip flopped with the plain glasses. I use them everyday and
I.LOVE.THEM.

They are very hefty and don't feel like they are going to break in your hand.
I only have the low ball and high ball tumblers not the goblets but
I highly recommend them. I got mine here: Target

Not bad for awesome cups.

Updating that old ceiling light

Our house came with some pretty interesting things; One of them being an old ceiling lamp that hung in the kitchen. I knew it had to come down but I wondered if we could give it a new life.
(Sorry this picture is so crappy)

I'm pretty in love with drum shades at the moment and after seeing this picture, I thought, "I could make that." These people were charging $69 just for the shade. crazy.

I went to Wal-Mart, found a lovely drum shade for $14.44, and took some spray paint to it. I decided on a more subtle pattern instead, but all it took was about 3 strips of painters tape. Jerry took the old glass cover off of the old ceiling lamp, and spray painted the base with a dark brass color. Then with a nip and a tuck and a little bit of glue, he attached my shade to the old/new lamp.  He also did my wire work for me and installed it... I'm no electrician.

But I'm pretty in love with the way it turned out and I only spent $14.44 (and an hour or two of my father in-law's time)  :-)

Here lately

We have officially moved into our house...as of about 3 weeks ago. Our current project has been the hardwood floors. I love hardwood floors but I absolutely love rustic hardwood floors. They are so homey and inviting. You don't feel like you have to tip toe around or don't have to fear dropping anything or making marks. The marks are what make them interesting. These are some of my favorite hardwoods...

^ I got this picture from my fab cousin's decor blog.

Our hardwood floors were definitely in the rustic category but needed a little help...or more like a lot of help. The first room we (Isaac and my father in-law Jerry) started on was Isaac's office/music room. We (Isaac and Jerry) sanded the floors with a hand sander, mostly in the spots that needed it most. And then Isaac stained the floors with Minwax Jacobean color wood stain.

We let them dry for a good 3-4 days, even though it probably only needed 2 days (so smelly it burns your nostrils!) and then I (and I proudly mean all by myself) Polyurethaned the floor. I used a fast drying Polyurethane so the floors were 100% dry in about 10 minutes, but I left the fan on for the next 5 hours just to be sure.

Before (I loved the original color so I wanted to keep them similar)

I have to say, I'm so happy with they way they turned out. And I LOVE the color combination of the white trim, navy-grey wall color, and the new color of the floors.

The rest of Isaac's office... we're still working on it but here's what it looks like so far.

I love his wall of guitars/ bass

That is an elephant at the bottom of the picture if you're wondering. There's an inside story as to why Isaac loves elephants but I got this little guy at Hobby Lobby for 75% off marked down from $160. I love good deals. But this poor little guy blends into the walls so much that I'm thinking about painting him a funky color of some kind...

We'll see.
